Venezuela Launches Cryptocurrency Training for Citizens Amid Petro Rise

Venezuelan citizens have been granted a new government educational programme on cryptocurrency.

The Venezuelan government is the first to issue a free cryptocurrency training programme educate its citizens about the dynamics of digital currencies. The opening of “Granja Laboratorio Petro” in Caracas comes after the Venezuelan government issued an oil-backed cryptocurrency, Petro (PTR) earlier in February.

Venezuela moves to create an oil-backed cryptocurrency aimed to attract foreign investors, as the country is under economic sanctions by the United States and the European Union.

The Petro has raised more than $700m in its first day, according to president Nicolás Maduro’s tweet on 20th February.
